Stays Healthy The Family That Plays Together Stays Healthy Together
Amber Jonas
Have you ever wondered how you can get your family off of the sofa and encourage them to get moving? It can be a simple task if you look for exercise programs the entire family can be involved in.
There's a saying, "The family that plays together, stays together." This is an approach you might consider taking to get your family moving. The family needs to play together, and in this case, exercise together for optimal health.
Consider what activity everyone in the family enjoys. For example, if both you and your spouse enjoy tennis, it should be on the exercise agenda. If your son is a golfer, you could all take lessons at your local golf course. Is your daughter a devoted jogger? It isn't hard for the entire family to jog. All you need are jogging shoes. You probably already know what activity everyone likes. Find time as a family to do it together.
Your family's fitness schedule should be a schedule you can continue throughout the year with a possibly "plan B" if the weather prohibits your ability to follow through with one of the planned activities.
While planning family fitness, you could plan major changes in your kitchen as well. It's a good time to make a commitment to replace the unhealthy choices with healthy ones.
Fresh vegetables and fruit are healthier for everyone. If you make these items readily available in your home, your children will most likely eat them without a second thought.
You could easily purchase healthier snacks to replace the unhealthy ones and watch your family snack without noticing the difference. Replace sodas with bottled water and a variety of fruit juices.
Subtle changes can be made within your home to help your family. There is no need to mention the changes at first. See how long it takes everyone to notice. If you announce the changes to them, what kind of appeal do you think it will have if they are used to unhealthy snacks?
Healthy living is a great way to show your family you care. Your children will continue eating healthier as they learn to spread their wings and fly.
